Some of the most difficult times are here for a lot of people. We are confronted by rules which seem to be changing on a daily basis. People are facing extremely stressful financial hardship with jobs lost and income decimated. When you consider that the reality is we are in partial lockdown, and only allowed to leave our homes for necessities, medical reasons, work or exercise. Those homes can now be thought of as prisons or havens .

I haven’t been a big fan of walking, but these last couple of weeks I have enjoyed it immensely. When given the option to get out of the house and exercise with the weather being so nice, it’s a no brainer. So I’m walking again with great pleasure — excitement even. Who’d have thought it? Plus Ross and I have been going for some bike rides and social distancing is not a problem there as I’m usually well behind him at all times.

I decided a week ago that now that I’m restricted in my movements, what better place could I be than in my own home. I have so many unfinished projects here and it has been fun unearthing some of them. Each day I decide on a project to either complete or do more work on and it makes me feel so industrious. Righteous even and rather smug because I’m getting stuff done. Today I decided that I would clean up one drawer a day in my kitchen because they really need it. The junk drawer is the first on the list. The washing is up to date — and lets face it there are only a small amount of clothes that two people can wear when we aren’t going out to socialise, so it’s an easy job. So far arguments have been minimal to none because we each have things to do in different areas of the house. Although now that Ross is not working that may change.

A couple of years ago I bought a small greenhouse from Aldi, and it has sat in the shed, in its box since then. It got moved from one place to another but still in the box. Today I got it out and with Ross’s help, assembled it. So now it is ready to house the trays of vegetable seeds I’ve sown. Growing your own seeds must be popular because there are not many left on the shelves at the nursery or Bunnings when we visited during the past week. Ross has been clearing our shed and found some more so I’ve got plenty to go on. Yesterday I got quite excited to see some of the first seeds have pushed through the soil. So thats another thing to keep me amused and well occupied.

Now I am well aware that there are people out there who don’t have any projects to keep them busy and that makes for a really challenging time. So once again I ask that you call someone from your contacts list both for the fun of catching up and potentially to help someone just by talking to them.

So who are you going to call today — is there someone you haven’t spoken to for a while? You never know but it might just brighten your day too.
