Suicide is a serious issue, not only in the country, but also in other parts of the world. Despite all the efforts of government and non-government organisations that focus on the reduction of indigenous suicide rates, the sad truth is that indigenous Australians still tend to do self-harm and suicide. In fact, they are at the top of the list.
That alarming rate brings about challenges and confusion about what and who is being responded to by the Suicide Prevention sector. Obviously, talks and conversations should be initiated so challenges and problems could be overcome. As a nation, we need to plan. We need to talk. And most importantly, we need to act.
The Indigenous Suicide Prevention Forum
On December 4 to 6, speakers from all the different sectors of suicide prevention in Australia will come together on the Indigenous Suicide Prevention Forum to discuss ways to holistically resolve this human tragedy.
Although the forum will showcase and highlight true stories, evidence-based research and findings, cultural programs, national action plans, and community empowerment efforts, discussions, participations, and the exchange of ideas will be integral.
